Hello

Yes I know, I've been neglecting you. Sorry. I have some photos of the plays to put up - will try to do them soon. Went with Amelia to her school today for the first half-hour story session. She did well - sat with the other kids and let me leave to have tea in another room. She asks a lot of questions about school, which I think is a good sign.

Way too much rain here. And cold. Like frickin' winter. English winter anyway. Toronto 30 degrees and sunny? Lucky you.

I see the third series of Dr. Who is starting soon on CBC - or has just started. We have the last episode this Saturday. Pretty good series, some episodes better than others. The first one's a good one. And the one with the weeping angels. I wonder what they've cooked up for the big finale?

Here's one recent photo for you:

Things

Just a very quick note. Play went well on Saturday - none of us missed a line and the energy level was high. Better than I expected, especially after Wednesday, when I realised I was going to have to (in some ways) carry the piece. And afterward, several audience members (whom I didn't know) spontaneously said to me, 'well done'. Which I thought was really nice.

A strange thing happened during the performance - and it happened in the second tech rehearsal too - I looked at the guy playing my boyfriend, really looked him in the eyes, and suddenly I felt like I was my character and he was his character and we were actually having that conversation. Never happened to me before. Is that what's called acting, Dale?

Sad it's all over now though. It's been going on in one way or another since January, so leaves a bit of a hole.

Have the possibility of having another play workshopped through the theatre in Plymouth - Nick, the playwright who was involved in Pen and Trough (what the play project we've just finished was called) is having a play put on down there, and his director came to our plays and liked my writing. I have to send him something by the end of the week, though...

On another note, I went today to a parents' meeting at Amelia' s school-to-be. We had another tour and met some of the staff, and also got information about how things will work in September. They really are lovely people and very focussed on the children. I came away feeling we'd made the right choice.

Don't know what's happening with the comments. I made one, and it said it had been sent off for approval... Bob, does that mean it goes to you? Nothing appeared in my e-mail.

All for now...

Fabulous

Well, my play had its debut last night, and it was great! The actors did a wonderful job. One of them missed a few lines, but it didn't matter - the audience didn't know that! And they all gave really powerful performances. And a great response from the audience too.

In fact, all the plays have been good, and some of them have been really good. It's the last night tonight - the one I'm in is on.

I came back from the technical rehearsal for the one I'm in on Wed. night saying I would never ever do this again - or if I do, it will be a small part in a big production. I made the mistake of thinking that because the play is short, it's the equivalent of a small part but it's not. During that 10 or 12 minutes, the focus is squarely on the three of us, and often my character, being the strongest one, has to carry the scene. And I'm not really experienced enough as a performer for that. Plus the poor guy who's playing my boyfriend and who came into the project late because they had trouble casting the role, forgot some of his lines, which tends to throw me.

Still, as they say: It will be all right on the night! Wish me a fractured limb!

Oh yes - apparently there is a problem with the commenting function (thanks Dale for telling me). I'll try to get it fixed asap.
