At last, some Christmas photos - plus other news
Actually, they're mostly from Christmas Eve, and a few days before. I'll have some from Christmas day when I get my other CD back from the developing place. Click on the links at the bottom to see them.
On a different note: Amelia reached a milestone yesterday. (Those who are a bit squeamish might want to stop reading now, though I will try to use the technical language.) She did a bowel movement in her potty. I had to hold her on it, mind you, as she was struggling to get off and saying "No, no, nappy, nappy." That's diaper to those in North America. She seems to think she can only do such things in her nappy, and when I showed her the results in the potty, she said "Uh oh." Hopefully my enthusiastic praise will get the message across.
She had a bad night last night, somehow ended up on the floor and woke at around midnight crying, then went into tantrum mode. It's very weird how she has them in the middle of the night when she's not awake. So today she was very tired and we made the mistake of taking her out in ther stroller, thinking she would go to sleep. Well, that part wasn't really a mistake - the mistake was thinking we could get her out to play in a park and then she would want to get back into her stroller. She did not! We put her in anyway, and this resulted in a major tantrum that lasted at least half an hour and had her running around a field screaming and then rolling in the mown grass. Not pretty.

Congratulations! I am another one of those "pathetic parents of toddlers" who finds toileting successes to be very exciting!!! Eric phoned me at work the other day and left me a message "Just wanted to tell you Bella peed on the toilet, yay!" I laughed all afternoon! Bella has been very resistent to any hint at toileting - until last week, she went upstairs by herself, took off her pants and diaper and peed on the toilet - then came to tell us "I peed on da toilet, mom, I did it all by myself!" Everything on her terms!! Today was her first diaper-free day! The funniest thing (and I won't be laughing at this for long!) is that as soon as she hears someone say they have to go to the bathroom (like her sister), she runs to the bathroom, sits on the toilet and WON'T get off - this drives Maddy into hysterics! Boy, parenting is not for sissies! Bella has yet to poop on the toilet though she was quite thrilled with a little toot the other day :-)
When Maddy was this age, she use to wake in the night with night-terrors. With her, it seemed like she was having a regular tantrum except that she was almost unconsolable. That's when I realized she wasn't really awake. The only thing that seemed to help was singing to her. "They" say if it is a night terror, you shouldn't wake them up - we would just hold her so she wouldn't hurt herself and let her go to it (not a treat at night!) My only bit of sanity was found in thinking that maybe this meant she was working through some emotional thing and we wouldn't have to deal with it during the day!!
Bella is still into tantrums though they seem to be not as frequen. The other day she had one because a tv show was over and she wanted to see it again (thinking it was a video!) I find it so much easier the second time around (since Maddy was the tantrum queen!) - I just walk away and let her go to it - eventually she comes to me to be held. It is not as much fun in public :-) and fortunately neither one of them has had one outside the house.
Your pictures of Christmas are so sweet - Amelia has such a lovely little face!
Take care, Jan
